I think this is the thirteenth book in Ms Spears popular Heart of the Wolf series and it's actually my second book by her. I discovered her at Christmas when I read a seasonal wolf story in this series and just had to read more! Although this is part of a series and mentions characters and events from previous books I didn't find it necessary to have read those first. This is easily understood and works very well as a standalone story so have no fears on that score.
Tom Silver is brother to his packs alpha and as such it's his duty to protect their grey wolf territory and those in it. Something is not right though and strange wolf sightings are happening and valuable livestock is being targeted. It's possible that it's wild wolves but everything points to rogue werewolves moving into the area. He has enough on his plate without being told to babysit a female visitor but when he meets her something about her just calls to him.
Elizabeth is no ordinary werewolf no she's a mix of red wolf and coyote and has spent her life being ostracised . She has travelled to Silver town to meet up with someone who can help her gather evidence about her parents suspicious deaths but she hadn't expected to be made to feel so welcome! Elizabeth has never met shifters as friendly as those of the Silver pack and Tom in particular looks to be a tasty treat!
Danger is on the slopes though and Elizabeth is in it's path. The Silver territory is beautiful but can be deadly. Can she trust Tom or will he let her down? Elizabeth is used to being on her own but her heart aches to feel wanted. Is it possible for a grey wolf to love a hybrid? Or is Elizabeth's world about to come crashing down?
This is definitely in a class of it's own.
I have been a fan of Terry Spear’s Heart of the Wolf series since the moment I picked up the first couple of books in a used book store back in 2009. There is just something about Terry’s wolf shifters that I can’t get enough of, and I was excited to find out more about who would win over Tom’s heart in Silence of the Wolf.
Tom is the youngest of triplets and his two brothers have already found their mates. Tom hasn’t found his mate though because to me he has never really looked for her or dreamt of her. I actually thought he would never hook up with anyone and be the odd man out. Poor Tom!
Thank goodness Terry Spear proved me wrong and Tom ends up meeting his mate when she’s visiting Silver Town. Elizabeth is there to do a job and find out some information on what happened to her parents from a friend. She’s trying to meet up with him, but can’t if the pack members of Silver Town won’t let her out of her sight. Tom is not very excited on keeping a watch on Elizabeth due to his brother wanting him to make sure she does her job and no one interferes. (Because believe me there are several pack members that would love to hook up with the new shifter in town.) Tom though changes his mind, when he sees Elizabeth.
Elizabeth is like no other female character in Terry’s stories though. She’s half wolf and half coyote. I thought this was unique in the story and was intrigued to find out more about Elizabeth. I also found it fascinating when a certain character told Elizabeth what coyotes were related to and which wolf came first (gray or red). I loved Elizabeth’s character at times, but other times she was really stubborn. She didn’t want any help from anyone and she got herself in some messy situations, when she could have just asked for help.
