In with the Old: Classic Decor from A to Z Description
The Peak of Chic blogger Jennifer Boles--who counts Newell Turner, Alexa Hampton, Stephen Drucker, and
Veranda founder Lisa Newsom among her loyal readers--presents a charming encyclopedia of 100 of the most stylish decorating details (chintz, striped walls, and orangeries) that were favored by the great tastemakers of the twentieth century. Best of all, Jennifer gives helpful tips on decorating with these traditional flourishes today.
The 1930s to the 1960s were a grand time for decorating: they saw Chippendale chairs and grotto furniture, house stationery, monograms, tented rooms, and vanities--much of which has since been forgotten or taken for granted. In
In with the Old Jennifer Boles breathes new life into gracious living with 100 entries organized from A to Z on her favorite decorating essentials of the past. Each entry explores curious facts, anecdotes, and timeless advice plucked from the legacies of Billy Baldwin, Dorothy Draper, Sister Parish, the Duchess of Windsor, and other tastemakers whose influence continues today.
With a foreword by Alexa Hampton and charming illustrations and photographs,
In with the Old is a guide to stylish living that will inspire and delight.

Jennifer Boles is the author of the popular design blog the "Peak of Chic", which counts among its many readers the country's top interior designers (see Editorial Reviews above). Yet "In With the Old" is neither a compilation of previous blog posts, nor is it geared solely to design "insiders". With 100 new and original essays exploring classic design elements, anyone with an interest in interior design should enjoy this book.
Each thoughtfully written entry, from the easily attainable "Candlelight" to the lavish "Follies", features a beautiful photograph or charming illustration and provides interesting information in a spirited, conversational tone while offering suggestions on incorporating the element into your own space (often listing available sources).
Its format is somewhat similar to the fashion books which catalog classic wardrobe items, and as those books can provide ideas and inspiration when shopping for your closet, "In With the Old" would be a great resource when thinking of adding something special to your home...I may now need a bit of malachite (p. 125)!
With its thoroughly researched and edited subject matter and its delightful prose, "In With the Old, Classic Decor from A to Z" should become a modern classic interior design reference book. It will be a go-to hostess gift and present for my design enthusiast friends this holiday season.

This is not just a coffee table book to browse through. It's like a dictionary of decorating terms where you can look up design terms and see photos or pictures of what they mean. This is a book I'll read and use for years to come! What a great reference tool!
